The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex declined 609 points or 0.82% to settle at 73,730. The broader NSE Nifty dropped 150 points or 0.67% to end at 22,420. The market breadth was, however, skewed in the favour of the bulls. About 1,996 stocks gained, 1,784 declined, and 133 remained unchanged on the BSE.
The top gainers were Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Power Grid, IndusInd Bank and Sun Pharmaceuticals while the top losers were Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Finance, State Bank of India (SBI), Bajaj Finserv and Divi s Laboratories.
The BSE benchmark Sensex rose 63 points or 0.09% to settle at 71,721. The NSE Nifty gained 28 points or 0.13% to end at 21,647. From the Sensex stocks, index heavyweight Reliance Industries surged 2.5%. UltraTech Cement, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank and Power Grid also closed higher, while Infosys, HUL, Wipro, and L&T settled with cuts.
While the market breadth remained marginally skewed in favour of the bulls with 27 stocks in Nifty trading in the green, several heavy-weights pared-off morning gains. The top gainers were Hero MotoCorp, Adani Ports, SBI Life Insurance Company, Apollo Hospitals and Adani Enterprises while biggest laggards included Britannia Industries, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India, HDFC Life and Asian Paints.
High weightage Nifty Financials rose 1.22%, after shedding 1.29% over the last four sessions. Nifty Realty index surged 6.76% to a new record high, led by Sobha, Macrotech Developers, Godrej Properties, and DLF.
