We have focused on attacking so that we can score and kill off the game as soon as possible. The Uganda Cup is a very important competition in the club s history, having won it 10 times, we want to ensure we win it again. I am sure the boys will deliver.
Goalkeeper Denis Otim seconded his tactician, exuding confidence the Kampala-based side will make it to the Round of 16. On Tuesday we picked up two important goals against Kyetume FC and ever since, we have been training hard and correcting the mistakes, the custodian said. So I am sure we shall deliver; I am also excited and glad to be playing for the club. I thank everyone for their support and I don’t take it for granted.
“As a player I know consistency keeps you in the team, I think I played well [against Kyetume] and my goal also boosted my confidence so I know I have to keep it up in order to maintain a starting berth.
“What counts is what you do when the coach trusts you so ahead of the Uganda Cup return leg [on Saturday], the focus is on advancing to the Round of 16 and the team is working towards that.” Tooki as he’s fondly known, made four appearances for the Red Eagles last season, three off the bench, while the Uganda Cup draw away to Kyetume was his first start for the club this campaign.
“Well it was a tough game but we managed to pick up two important away goals,” Bbosa told the club’s official website. “I think the advantage is ours now and we’re going back to correct the mistakes we did today [Tuesday].
“Overall, I think we played well but we can do better in the return leg.”
On his part, midfielder Byamukama was happy to notch his first goal for the club and also echoed coach Bbosa’s sentiments by stating they have the advantage going into the return leg as they scored the two vital away goals.
“First of all I am happy to have scored my first goal for the club this season,” Byamukama told the same portal. “It was a really difficult game but we managed to get two important away goals.
Coach Bbosa has admitted during their first meeting in the league, his charges struggled to use chances they had created but said they had worked on the problem and were ready for the match, as their target this season is to win both the league and the domestic cup.
“We’ve prepared well coming into this next game, the league win over URA gave us a boost but now next up is a knock-out competition [Uganda Cup,” Bbosa told the club’s official website.
“We face Kyetume whom we faced in the first round of the league but we shared a point in a 0-0 draw, we created chances which we didn’t convert so concentration has been on the final third, the players know we have to compete in both competitions [domestic cup and league] to help the club win silverware.”
Bbosa has praised his players for their resilience despite playing most of the game a man down, and further revealed how they came out on top because of using the chances they created.
“We are glad we managed to win our first game of the second round at home,” Bbosa told the club’s official website after the game.
“The most important thing today [Saturday] is that we prepared well, we managed to play even with 10 men but I think we used our chances well and the boys played as a unit now we move to our focus to the Uganda Cup away game to Kyetume FC, our target is to stay in both competitions and we win them.”
