doing to americans health. yet, they testified in front of congress that it wasn t the case. and here is mark zuckerberg when he testified on march 25th in front of congress. the research that we ve seen is that using social apps to connect with other people can have positive mental health benefits and well-being benefits like helping people feel more connected and less lonely. it can have positive mental health benefits, but their research shows for teenage girls it doesn t. it s something that he knows. and, in fact, when he testified in congress, i spent the entire time looking at all of that footage. and the smirk and the smug look on his face understanding that he was able to essentially dupe congressional leaders to think that what he was doing is okay and not get anything in his platform looked at in a deeper dive and hide this information from the american public where parents are losing children and
kind of meaningful action. so i think the big question is, you know, will he run again in 2024. will they once again embrace him. will they clear the field for him? a lot of these questions, we don t yet have the answers to, but i think this is a problem. there s still this element of trying to have it both ways. again, it goes back to the idea of the idea of disavowing the insurrection, but pretending that donald trump and everything that he represents is not it s fundamentally tied to how he got this is the thing. so i was at the capitol complex on january 6th, right? i was in the russell rotunda. we were worried at the time that we were going knob a more dangerous spot, because obviously the capitol would be safer. that obviously wasn t the case. we watched as these people overtook things. the congressman who later said it was a bunch of tourists was inside the house chamber barricading the doors with this these armed security guards. this is obviously the place where the gu
some kind of a roster of famous of students or faculty or people associated with the university. what do you know for sure about this? look, i know very little for sure about how the entry into the airport worked. nobody outside really does. it s very simple confusion. no fault. the fact is our buses never even approached the point of the taliban check point and so there s no reason to believe that any list of names, passport numbers or other identifying information was passed to the taliban. however, you know, i am aware of speculation about how this might work. it simply wasn t the case for us. any direct threats to your students who are still there? yes, absolutely. many report anything from harassing behavior, entering homes by the taliban, asking who s there, what they do, including whether they re students at the american
of people who are questioning why this didn t happen faster and why this particular withdrawal was conducted the way that it was, leaving so many american partners just lost. i think that s going to be the hardest question for biden to have to justify is how we left this way, right, if we had been going through this process and a number of administrations have dealt with the challenge, how do we leave and what s the next chapter with afghanistan leaving the way we did where we have our closest allies publicly admonishing this exit strategy, saying they were not communicated with, and had little knowledge about how this would unfold. i think that s going to be hard for him to justify, and of course he says that if we had stayed past this deadline, we would have seen more u.s. troops killed, and had those 13 servicemen and women not been killed, perhaps that would have been something that he could have seen as an achievement. that wasn t the case unfortunately. let me throw this out
just wasn t the case. i think cultures were so vastly different. we were maybe trying to achieve something that wasn t achievable. we were trying to put our own interpretations of peace and governance on their culture, and maybe thatjust isn t correct. you know, and how do you deal with that? it s about acceptance, really. i m where i am, and i wouldn t be here without the past. it s not perfect, of course. life isn t perfect. it isn t for anyone. but actually, it s pretty good. it could be a hell of a lot worse. and if anything had changed, it would be different. maybe better, maybe worse i don t know. so that s kind of how i deal with things on a personal nature, and i would encourage other people to as well.
