martha: asked trey gowdy what he thought his response to the question will be and is it probably when we finish the report. but we do know of three things that the special counsel get to the attorney general prior to the report being released for the special counsel indicated that there was not a chargeable criminal conspiracy on this collusion issue. we would like to know when it was. martha: one of the things i would be listening to closely and i imagine everybody else will as well, the question to robert mueller, did you believe that if this wasn t a sitting president, you had enough to indict. what you think his answer to that would be? he wrote about that quite a bit. he wrote that there were really three principal reasons why there was not an indictment on collusion apart from the special counsel view. one is that the president has legitimate article to powers that he was utilizing. second the president was largely acting in public in a notorious way and fair that there w
conspiracy. but he says that in many ways that is because witnesses were unavailable or they lied or evidence was destroyed. if democrats can hammer that point home with the public, they may be able to make some of the inroads that they need to make in this hearing. mr. miller, one issue that was not explored in the report was robert mueller s interactions with the new attorney general, bill barr. and we know they didn t agree with how bill barr summarized the report. is that the area democrats can get the most bang for their buck? i think it is absolutely. i ve looked at two big areas i think are important to question the special counsel on. one, to elicit the answer to the question, if the president wasn t a sitting president would he be indicted? i don t think he ll answer directly but there are ways to back into it. the second is to try to show how the attorney general misled the public about his report. i don t think if you ask mueller if he, you know, directly, do you disagre
had repeated contacts during the presidential campaign. if the white house now doesn t like that reporting and even disagrees with that reporting and they think the fbi hasn t been forthcoming about what they disagree with in that reporting, what should they do? they re pressing the fbi to speak publicly. what should they do to make their case? first of all, they shouldn t contact the fbi. again, that is against the rules. i m old enough to remember a couple months ago when ex-president clinton sat on a runway with then attorney general lynch and had a conversation. that blew up the republican party. mind you, that wasn t a sitting president, that wasn t the boss. so there is no doubt in my mind that if this story broke in an alternative eun verse with a president clinton, articles of
would have gotten it. no way. no. i know my people. not even possible. the facts, trump did hold a fund-raiser for jeb bush in the late 90s when he was trying to get a casino deal down in florida. bush later blocked it. on this issue it appears trump had to say things that were false and bush was saying something that was true. on the issue of iraq i am the only person that fought very, very hard against us, and i wasn t a sitting politician going into iraq. many of the candidates say if they knew then what they know now, they would have opposed the war. some say they even resisted it way back then, including rand paul. but donald trump was a big public figure. he did speak out in a big way within a week of the invasion saying it was a mess. give him credit here, what he had to say was true. all right. we ll have more fact-checking for you a little later. the next hour of cnn newsroom starts now.
