of course. and they re taking us backwards. this wasn t a problem last year, the year before, the year before that. in fact, for over 60 years, this has been a bipartisan bill. strong majorities of republicans and democrats have voted to support our troops. but that s the problem is this bill fundamentally doesn t support our troops. and that s why i m voting against it. so what happens to the funding? what happens? well, what s going to happen with this bill is if republicans manage to somehow get it out of the house with very few with any democratic votes, a totally partisan bill, it still has to go to the senate and be reconciled with the senate bill. so those of us who are appointed to the conference committee, as i expect to be, will fight very hard to remove this provision. and we don t expect it to be supported in the senate. but it is such an insult. it s such an insult to every woman who is risking her life for the country tonight to have this even get out of the house o
women service members, or any service members are making enough to be paying for their own health care, or even the extensive travel that it might take to get to a state that does not allow the south shore services, to a state that does. i mean, way up in massachusetts, we re having a lot of influx of people from states far away, who can t get basic health care. but, massachusetts is pretty far from many of the bases that have these prohibitions. there s also the concern about allowing women service members time off, after having an abortion, if they have, in order to recover. i mean again, as a male in the military, if i was injured, if i had a medical procedure, i would get time to recover. but we are saying, women, you don t count. that s what this bill says, and that s why sadly, so many of us are going to vote against. republicans in the past is that the democrats are pushing a social agenda, in places like the military. does this seem to you now that s what republicans are
converting our democracy into some kind of authoritarian government. because that s what dictatorships do. but if there is an enemies list you are probably on it. i m sure you ve thought about this. what could the trump doj due to make your life difficult? well just the other day trump said i should be imprisoned. of course this is not the first time he s called for jailing me and you have to wonder, could president trump unshackled by any opposition somehow use the justice department to imprison his enemies? there are a lot of things we ve seen take place in this country in the last several years that we would never have imagined possible. we thought we were exceptional in the sense that this was a problem other countries had, it wasn t a problem for the united states. but we have seen since trump s election a steady degradation of our institutions and we will be given a chance again. you can t bet against how he
is something they did. last year. it was around may or june of last year, where there was a plane that flew over washington, dc, and there was a miscommunication it was, you know, an event for the washington nationals baseball team at the ballpark there, and they actually evacuated the capitol. they went to read because there was a miscommunication at this point was supposed to be there that close to the united states capitol but again anytime they have any aircraft that pierces that security perimeter around washington d. c. they re going to take notice here in washington and they re going to do you know, take those measures to protect the capital protect the white house, etcetera, and that s exactly what they did briefly here and then i was told after the they cleared the capital. said there wasn t a problem here. that s when people heard the sonic boom. and so that s what lucas was was talking about here. scrambling the jets from joint base andrews just outside washington, d c to pr
