April 27, 2021 The WSU community is invited to watch the final five WSU student teams pitch their ideas, get feedback from industry leader judges, and compete for $53,000 in prize money at the WSU Business Plan Competition, Thursday, April 29, 1:45 – 5 p.m. The all-star cast of investors and judges includes WSU Regent Heather Redman, managing partner, Flying Fish Ventures; Diane Fraiman, managing director, Voyager Capital; Dan Lynch, business angel, mentor and technology investor; Matt Mosman, general partner, Pelion and Scott Thomson, and vice president of business development, McKinstry. Center for Civic Engagement prepares for more community engagement experiences | WSU Insider

April 16, 2021 By Steve Nakata, Division of Student Affairs Now that places like senior centers, public schools, museums, and parks are gradually increasing operations, Washington State University’s Center for Civic Engagement is getting ready for an increase in service-learning opportunities for students. It is already hiring more student staff to serve as project leaders in the fall when volunteer opportunities will be at their peak. It’s just one example of the many ways WSU campuses are working to provide students with more in-person experiences. Ben Calabretta, associate director of CCE, said it is an exciting time for students who are seeking more opportunities to engage with their communities.

WSU’s Center for Innovation announces startup competition winners By Amy Edelen, The Spokesman-Review Published: February 23, 2021, 8:20am Share: Washington State University’s Center for Innovation awarded three startups with mentorship and support valued at $25,000 to launch business ideas related to solving coronavirus-related challenges. WSU’s Center for Innovation evaluated more than 40 business ideas prior to selecting three winners that pitched their proposals to a panel of community judges. The three winners were WiseWater, SniffAlert and FarmTable. WiseWater uses a system that can be used on faucets to ensure users follow proper handwashing protocols per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. SniffAlert is a company that provides training for household dogs to “sniff out” COVID-19 and other illnesses. And FarmTable addresses disruptions in the local food system due to the pandemic by using a mobile app that will include a regional food
