Deborah Burton, who has a child attending the Washington Montessori school, began a well-run effort called Food Bank Friday to collect needed nonperishables for local food pantries in Bethlehem and Litchfield.
Specific food items that are needed were requested of Montessori parents who could drive by the school to donate the food. A recent collection resulted in 450 nonperishable items and homemade cookies for the pantries.
To beat the winter storm, Deborah brought her son, Jude Celebi, with her to unload boxes at St. Michael’s-Litchfield community house. Food Pantry volunteer Ann Hodgman of Morris welcomed the duo, saying these items would be helping to serve 75 families in the local area.
