Minutes after the center reopened to tourists this morning, two suspicious packages turned up on the grounds, visitors were kept away and streets closed while police cleared and checked the unattended bags. He says this guy was previously known to the Capitol Hill Police and his vehicle has been located. The investigation of that vehicle continues on. Here nis the chief. A suspect who we confirmed through the sources is larry dawson walked into the Visitor Center here at the United States capitol complex pulled out the gun, the officers fired. He was taken to the hospital. Taken to surgery. We dont know the nature of his injuries if they are grave, critical or how he is doing at this time. This place was crawling with tourists. People off on vacation. They had to do a lockdown. They had to usher people into different rooms. We spoke with many of the tourists a number of them children. Langley High School Community about the case in an letter last night an hour before the news4 iteam revealed the details and the district told the community they had already notified the parents of the kids who traveled on that trip. John said his son was on that trip and the school never told him. Did anybody from the School District notify you this had happened . No, absolutely nothing from the school. There was only what we heard via the grapevine. Reporter so we asked again today and Fairfax County schools issued a new statement saying it notified the parents of the alleged victims and the School District said the Chris Rademacher Germany Exchange program trip and friendship connection were not officially sanctioned by the School District, but documents that Company Provided to the news4 iteam indicate Fairfax County School Administrators did sign paperwork approving german students to visit langley parents said they were led to believe the trip was school sanctioned because the re
