Jury clears kidnapper of raping woman

Bolton Crown Court A BURY man forced a woman to drive him to his caravan but did not rape her, a jury has decided. Connor Hamer, 27, was accused of three counts of rape which are alleged to have happened in June last year. But after a six day trial and several hours of deliberation a jury found him not guilty of the rape allegations and making threats to kill. However, Hamer, of Wash Lane Terrace, Bury was convicted of kidnapping the woman. He was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on March 5. The court had heard how Hamer visited his victim s Lancashire home on June 3.

Bolton Crown Court A MAN accused of raping a woman has told a jury that she willingly went to his caravan in Bury to spend the night. Giving evidence in his own defence at Bolton Crown Court 27-year-old Connor Hamer said he and friend visited the woman s home in Lancashire on June 3 last year because she owed him £10,000. Hamer, of Wash Lane Terrace, Bury, said he wanted the cash so he could pay back his father the money he had been given to buy his caravan. But a jury heard how a row broke out over messages he saw on the woman s phone and she ran off.
