LEARN AT PICOTS FARM WOOLSHED Long-term Southern Downs producers Picots Farm are bringing an art-focused learning experience to the regions this weekend. Gold Coast artist and instructor Annette Raff is offering cyanotype-printing tutorials and watercolour workshops, all hosted from Picots Farms woolshed. Guests will need to bring some of their own materials for the watercolour classes (packs available for additional cost), but all items for the printing workshop will be provided. One of Warwick’s greatest sporting rivalries will be reignited this weekend in the annual Barrett Shield clash.
The Warwick Cowboys and Wattles Warriors will take to Father Ranger Oval on Saturday evening to battle it out for the title, bringing rugby league back to the Rose City for the first time in nearly a year.
After meeting in a pre-season trial carnival at the Wattles’ home Platz Oval last weekend, both clubs are promising to bring their A-game at the weekend’s game.
Cowboys president Dayne Barrett said he was confident the team could defend the title in front of a home crowd.

HORSE RACING: Warwick Cowboys players and supporters saddled up today for their third annual race day at the Warwick Turf Club. Despite the heatwave conditions, it was a big day for local names with a Toowoomba-based trainer winning the main race of the day. The Basil Nolan Jnr Memorial race, a tribute to the formers Cowboys player, was won by Short Sara trained by Michael Nolan and ridden by Les Tilley. Peta Calada and Winter Rain came second and third respectively. The event is a major fundraiser for the rugby league team and was the first opportunity to host an event with the women s field team.

TWO of the community’s biggest sporting clubs will get their 2021 seasons off to a galloping start this weekend at the Warwick Cowboys TAB Race Day.
The Warwick Turf Club will host the rugby league association’s major fundraiser for the third consecutive year on Saturday, January 16, with the six-card event promising plenty of action.
Keen punters can head to the Calcutta at the Cowboys clubhouse from 6pm on Friday, January 15.
After the cancellation of the 2020 TRL season, Cowboys president Dayne Barrett said this year’s race day would be more important than ever in bringing the community together.
