Community leaders pose for a group photo with Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield leadership, May 26 on Fort Stewart prior to spending the day touring the installation. Col. Bryan Logan, Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Garrison Commander, invited over a dozen Mayors, City Managers and school administrators to visit Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield to gain a better understanding of the Army mission and how the communities can better partner with the Army and support Army Families.

Antonio Aguto, the commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division, secures a wreath at the Wreaths for Warriors Walk on Fort Stewart, Georgia, Dec. 19, 2020, for the tree dedicated to Sgt. 1st Class Alwyn Cashe, while the fallen Soldier’s sisters, Bernadine (left), and Kasinal Cashe observe. Cashe retrieved seven Soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter from a burning Bradley Fighting Vehicle in Oct. 2005. Cashe posthumously received the Silver Star Medal for his actions that ultimately took his life and is being considered to receive the Medal of Honor, the U.S. military’s highest award for gallantry and bravery. A member of Cashe’s family has participated in the Wreaths for Warriors Walk every year since its inception in 2007.

CASA to host 3rd Annual Toy Drive
Atlantic Area Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc. (also known as CASA), is currently hosting their 3rd Annual CASA Toy Drive. Each donation will be given the children advocated by CASA Volunteers.
The non-profit organization, established back in 1999, advocates for abused and neglected children that have been placed in foster care through juvenile court proceedings in six counties, including Liberty, Long and Tattnall.
From now through Dec. 11, community members and businesses can donate toys and gift cards to the CASA office, located at 1113 East Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville. All toys must be new and unwrapped and gift cards must be at a minimum of twenty dollars. For more information call 912-876-3816 or head over to www.atlanticareacasa.

Wreaths for Warriors Walk will be hosting the 14th annual wreath laying beginning at noon Dec. 19, at Cottrell Field, Fort Stewart.
Due to the ongoing pandemic there will be no formal ceremony this year, just the wreath laying event at Warriors Walk to honor the 469 soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
