And its such a great day to celebrate the relationship between National Constitution center and cspan. Cspan has an inspiring nonpartisan mission to bring unfiltered information about the u. S. Government to american citizens and that coincides with the National Constitution centers mission, which i all want you to recite along with me to inspire our guests and our cspan viewers. The National Constitution center is the only institution in america chartered by congress to disseminate information about the constitution on a nonpartisan basis. Beautiful. That was so well done. [ applause ] i was so thrilled when my friend and colleague, susan swain, the head of cspan, came a few months ago or weeks ago, about three weeks ago, that said we have this great new book on the president s. Lets launch it at the National Constitution center. Were here to
Storyteller john flashal who leads walking tours at the site where the statues are located. So you are now currently on the property of mr. Howard hankins, a Business Owner of Hamilton Road materials. Its an Industrial Recycling area. Mr. Hankins owned as much as 600 acres here and partitioned off a couple Hundred Acres to the nearby golf course. And this is a small sliver of whats remaining of the 400 acres. The significance of that he was involved, partially involved in the creation of the original president s park, a tourist site 12 miles from here that was open from 2004 until 2010. That was the home of all 42 of these sculptures. He was actually also instrumental and commissioned in 2010 to come take these sculptures when that park went bankrupt and put them in his stone crusher. So he did not have the heart to do that, thank god. And spent a considerable amount of his own money to transport every one of these one by one from that bankrupt, nonfunctional park 12 miles from here to

To begin the Program Shortly well hear a brief presentation from susan swain, copresident and executive officer of cspan and coauthors of the president s. Shell be joined by brian lamb, the founder and executive chairman of cspan and moderating and esteemed group of historians in discussing the american presidency. The american presidency is as you know a fascinating subject of inquiry in every possible way. In the constitution, theres not as much said about it as you might imagine. Article i is quite long, ii much shorter and the key phrase is about as short as you can imagine. The executive power should be vested in a president of the United States of america.

Its a pleasure to be with you, because really there is no kind of person i more enjoy talking with than teachers of history. Teachers of history have been tremendously important in my life from high school, from college and also people who are involved in teaching public history by working in museums, historical sites and so forth.
