A man who died in Allegheny County Jail over the weekend was identified Tuesday as Douglas Bonomo, 59, of McKeesport. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet provided a cause or manner of death. Bonomo, an inmate at the jail, was pronounced dead by paramedics around 7:20 a.m.
The majority of incarcerated people surveyed about conditions inside Allegheny County Jail said they found the food unsatisfactory, and sometimes inedible. They question whether this is a deliberate ploy to crank up spending at the commissary.
Nearly half of the Allegheny County Jail is on a modified lockdown after leaders consulted with local health professionals about a rise in COVID-19 cases, according to a press release.
