Fadi Saleh sheds light on the portrayal of intersex persons in Syrian drama at a time when LGBTIQ+ issues were not as present in political and cultural scenes as they are nowadays. First, Saleh examines the representation of an intersex character in episodes nineteen and twenty of the series Sirat Al Hob (2007). He argues that the series’ representation of the intersex character conformed to social norms and stereotypes while implicitly presenting a revolutionary feminist discourse that emphasized free choice over one’s body and gender, as well as boldly addressing a number of issues for the first time on Syrian television.
