TRS, opposition going all out to woo graduates in MLC polls   Sun, Mar 07 2021 10:30:00 AM Hyderabad, Mar 7 (IANS): With just a week left for elections to two seats of Telangana State Legislative Council, ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and opposition BJP and Congress have intensified their campaign to woo over 10 lakh graduates who are eligible to cast their votes. The stakes are high for TRS, which is facing a tough task to retain Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda seat and also to ensure victory of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao s daughter S. Vani Devi in Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar constituency. The major parties and independents are busy in intensive campaign to reach out to graduates for March 14 elections.

The resurgence of the BJP following its recent victories and entry of two prominent academics in the fray has made the MLC polls an uphill task for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). Though the number of graduates eligible to vote in Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituencies are around 10 lakh, the fact that they cover 75 out of 119 Assembly constituencies make the poll battle significant.

74 valid nominations for Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda MLC

Updated: Share Article AAA Of the total 76 nominations received till the closing day on Tuesday, 74 candidates were declared validly nominated, Returning Officer of Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates’ MLC and District Collector Prashant J Patil informed on Wednesday. Two candidates were rejected – one 27-year-old, as the minimum age for contesting the election is 30 years, and another for mismatch of proposer names in nomination papers with reference to the electoral roll of the constituency. Mr. Patil supervised the scrutiny of nominations at the Udayaditya Bhavan in the Collectorate. The exercise was attended by election officials, several contestants and their supporters. In all, it was declared, 16 candidates are party affiliated and the remaining 58 are independent candidates. The last stage before the scheduled polling date on March 14, Sunday, is the withdrawal of candidatures on February 26, Friday.
