terms of war films? well, i think, david, that s the tension that exists in every so-called war movie. this is a spectacular movie. i hope it gets some oscars. lots of military people are seeing it, war veterans, but clearly, you know, there s a departure between individual drama and the realism of combat. so i think a lot of soldiers are saying, wait a minute, we do team sports and this is displaying john wayne individual bravado. that s the normal tension in a war movie. as you pointed out, the movie has sold out particularly in and near military bases. a lot of people are rushing to see this. is there sort of a healthy way in order to have this tension whereby hollywood does what it s going to do to make movies and try to deliver a message, and the public understands that these movies sometimes won t always be accurate? well, they try to work with two seemingly contradictory
the way that i never expected. that was something so special. you saw in the summer of 2001 about this miniseries that was coming. it s funny you say that, because band of brothers is so linked with 9/11, every week, sunday night, our whole family would sit on the couch. it was really inspiring. saving private ryan, he was an actor in that, but that was one of the most powerful war films ever made, thanks in no small part to his acting. the thing about the pacific series, there are parallels now with the war on terror. guys were fighting in the pacific, it was a war that didn t people know that much about, they didn t know that much about the terrain. that is the parallel. rick stengel, thank you very much. the new cover of time, history maker. and aen der er ndy serwer as we. back with dnc chairman tim kaine.
