Survivors of the Japanese World War II occupation of Guam and their descendants have received $4.13 million in compensation under a 2021 territorial law, according to the governor’s office.
Only about 90 applications have so far been accepted in the latest round of war reparations, despite early estimates that over 700 claimants and their descendants would be eligible.
The local program to pay claims to Guam’s World War II survivors and their descendants officially launches Friday, and the Guam Museum will serve as a claim center.
World War II survivors and their descendants will be able to begin submitting applications for war claims on April 2, according to officials on the War Claims Adjudication Committee.
