WAPELLO The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the largest solar energy facility in Iowa, the 127.5 megawatt – direct current Wapello Solar photovoltaic project located on nearly 800 acres of land south of Wapello, was held Friday under a mostly cloudy sky.
Although the cloudy sky prevented the 318,000 solar panels from operating at full capacity, several of the dignitaries who spoke pointed out the facility is capable of providing enough power for more than 20,000 homes. They also explained that since becoming operational in March, the facility along with other clean energy operations in the state now is an important contributor to the Midwest and national power grid.
