Taipei, Oct. 23 (CNA) Legislator Chen Po-wei (陳柏惟) of the Taiwan Statebuilding Party will be removed from office after losing an unprecedented recall election in Taichung's second electoral constituency Saturday.
Taipei, Oct. 22 (CNA) A special election will be held on Saturday for voters in a district of Taichung City to decide whether to recall Legislator Chen Po-wei (陳柏惟) of the pro-independence Taiwan Statebuilding Party, with the main opposition party Kuomintang (KMT) backing the campaign and the ruling party defending him.
Youth groups yesterday joined pan-green camp politicians in calling for registered Taichung voters to return to the city on Saturday to vote against the recall of Taiwan Statebuilding Party Legislator Chen Po-wei (陳柏惟), which a commentator said was part of the Chinese Nationalist Party’s (KMT) “generational war.”
Strategy and Public Research Institute of Taiwan deputy director Chang Yu-shau (張宇韶) called the recall unjustified, saying that the rules were unfair and it was part of the KMT’s “politics of hatred.”
“The young generation represents our nation’s hope for the future,” Chang said, adding that young eligible voters returning home to vote was critical
The recall vote for Taiwan Statebuilding Party Legislator Chen Po-wei (陳柏惟) on Saturday next week has little to do with his performance as a legislator representing Taichung’s second electoral district. It is a local issue, but not in the way that recalls are intended to be. More significantly, it concerns national, and even international, political power play.
Chen has had a target on his back ever since he won the seat in last year’s legislative elections as a dark-horse candidate against then-Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) legislator Yen Kuan-hen (顏寬恆).
