Taipei, Jan. 7 (CNA) The family of a Taiwanese fishing boat captain who went missing along with nine crew members off Midway Atoll last week urged President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Thursday to request that the American authorities step up search-and-rescue efforts in the vicinity of the remote U.S. territory.
During a press conference at the Su ao Fishermen s Association, the wife of the missing captain, who has been identified by the surname Li (李), accused the U.S. of adopting a passive approach to locating her husband and the ship s Indonesian crew members, and urged Tsai to seek assistance through diplomatic channels.

The wife of the captain of an Yilan County-based fishing vessel that has been out of contact for nine days in waters near the Midway Atoll yesterday urged President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) to ask the US to help rescue the ship’s crew.
Accompanied by her two sons, the woman, surnamed Lin (林), arrived at a fishers’ association in the county’s Suao Township (蘇澳) asking for Tsai’s help, saying that one word from the president held more weight than anything that they could say.
