A decade ago, the New York Times kicked off the celebration of Willows Inn by naming it one of 10 restaurants around the world worth a plane ride. Much to the delight of food lovers in Seattle, it required no flights from here – just a two hour drive and a short ferry ride to tiny Lummi Island. Serving a dozen courses of (supposedly) the region’s best produce, seafood and meat, distilled into a multi-hour tasting menu, often with an intermission as diner stepped outside to watch whales swim by under a stunning pink sunset, it quickly became the go-to place for once-in-a-lifetime celebrations.

Beloved Capitol Hill eatery for all manner of comfort food, The Wandering Goose, announced in the final days of 2020 that it would close its doors after eight years of famed biscuits, fried chicken and breakfast fare.
The restaurant noted its economic struggle to keep afloat, a reasonable citing given restrictions across the state of Washington have changed and adjusted countless times over the course of COVID-19, and changed yet again just days ago.
“It’s been a good journey and it’s heartbreaking considering I put everything I had into a place I really (and still do) believe in, but I had to call it,” owner Heather Earnhardt told Eater Seattle. “I’m not a quitter, but it was an impossible situation with absolutely no help from the government.
