SET-listed SPCG, a pioneer in solar farm development in Thailand, expects to secure state approval to build 23 solar farms across the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in the third quarter to offset its revenue loss from the gradual expiration of the adder tariff for its existing solar farms.
Businesses adopted cost reduction, increased productivity, and emphasised environmental standards to cope with the pandemic and global challenges stemming from the Russia-Ukraine war, panellists told the Forbes Thailand 2022 Forum on Monday.

Renewable power, the phasing out of fossil fuels, bureaucratic overhaul at Egat and a gradual shift to electric vehicles are on the horizon

90 SPCG, the operator of Solar Power Korat 1 in Nakhon Ratchasima, is preparing for a new solar farm project in the Eastern Economic Corridor.
Unlike some reforms in Thailand that face hurdles because of political power plays among authorities, changes in the energy industry have no excuse for delay.
With the rapid growth of renewable energy, the phasing out of fossil fuel-based electricity generation is unavoidable. The role of state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) as the sole electricity vendor is also poised to change.

Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), the state power distribution arm, has announced it was given a quota to produce 30% of total power capacity in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) until 2037 under the PEA s renewable power generation development plan.
The quota is in line with the government s policy to establish a carbon-free industrial zone.
PEA deputy governor Khemmarat Sartpreecha said yesterday the firm has been allowed to generate clean energy for EEC, a new high-tech industrial hub development project, from the end of last year at 0.8% of the capacity, with the rest based on fossil fuels.
