latest. hello, charles. reporter: good afternoon, mike. pennsylvania state police say the department is in mourning after two of its troopers were shot, one of whom was killed in a shootout with an armed suspect saturday afternoon. this whole ordeal plaid out across two separate scenes this pennsylvania in the central portion of the state. pennsylvania police tell us an armed man first engaged troopers in mifflintown, pennsylvania, around 12:45 saturday afternoon. during that initial encounter which was reportedly near a state police bare rack, the armed man allegedly shot one trooper who was rushed to a hospital to be treated for serious injuries. after a manhunt, mike, for the suspect, police located him about two hours later in walker township about 7 miles away in the same county. troopers exchanged gunfire with the suspect there, and during that particular exchange pennsylvania police say both the suspect and a trooper were shot and killed. we just got video in a few
finally seeing some progress as police as you mentioned trying to get this person out peacefully. reporter: that s correct. it s such a relief to see one person come out, two people come out and everybody come out. that would be the best news of all. the lapd s working to make that happen. they re trying to keep everyone safe inside the store as much as possible. but again, they re dealing wan armed man here, very dangerous situation. for everybody involved. including the officers. we did see during the early moments of this issue we did see officers putting their lives at risk running through the parking lot to rescue children in locked cars and people that were coming out of the windows. so it was quite a sight to see that bravery happening with lapd. those customers themselves very brave to climb out of that window and run for their lives to get away from the situation. a lot going on here. lapd doing a great job in trying to negotiate a peaceful surrender in this situation but st
