Top vote getters Mia Bonta and Janani Ramachandran are likely to face each other in a runoff for the Assembly District 18 seat that became vacant recently when the governor appointed Rob Bonta as state attorney general.
With as many as 13,000 votes in Tuesday’s special election eft to count over the next week, Mua Bonta is leading with 37.62 percent of the vote, and Ramachandran is second highest with 21.57 percent.
Alameda Vice Mayor Malia Vella is in third-place has 16.50 percent of the vote. There were a total of nine candidates.

In December, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, fined the nursing home $20,820 for two violations: “The employer did not ensure that an effective respiratory protection program was established with worksite-specific procedures for respirator use … such as but not limited to fit testing and medical evaluations,” and it did not report the death after eight hours. Riley, who filed the OSHA complaint two months after Gardner died on June 11, called it a “cover-up.�
