People on the Move The longtime owner of M. L. Schmitt Electric Inc. has transferred his business to two electricians who have worked for him for many years. Thomas Schmitt transferred the electrical-contracting firm that performs residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects to new co-owners Peter Coppez and Jean Pierre Crevier. Coppez joined M. L. Schmitt as an apprentice in 2000. He’s a graduate of Springfield Technical Community College, the Local IBEW #7 apprenticeship program, and Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he graduated this spring with a bachelor’s degree in project management. Crevier joined M. L. Schmitt as an apprentice in 2004. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from UMass and completed the Local IBEW #7 apprenticeship program. He graduated this spring with a master’s degree in project management from Wentworth Institute of Technology. Schmitt was President of M. L. Schmitt Electric for 31 years.

Search Is On To Replace Lelling As U S Attorney For Mass

The search for Massachusetts next top federal prosecutor is about to begin in earnest. Incoming President Joe Biden will appoint the next U.S. attorney for Massachusetts, but a local advisory committee expects to begin reviewing applications as early as next week. The committee was set up by Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, who will ultimately recommend who the next president should appoint to replace current U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling. The chair of the advisory committee, retired federal judge Nancy Gertner, says the panel interested in talking with the candidates about the power wielded by prosecutors and whether changes might be needed, although that will largely depend on the next attorney general.

The announcement was made on Dec. 18 by U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey. The advisory committee will solicit, interview, and comment on applications for the position of U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts, the state’s top federal law-enforcement officer. The committee is comprised of members of the Massachusetts legal community, including prominent academics and litigators, and is chaired by former U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Gertner.
