I was in the hospital for eight days during which time I received the most professional care imaginable. The doctors, nurses, PSWs, porters and other staff were caring and efficient in their duties despite being overworked and understaffed.
I am so grateful to all members of the ninth floor general surgery department for their diligence, care and relentless efforts to assist their patients. These people are exceptional and deserve recognition.

Removing 1st PM’s statue an affront
The removal of the statue of Sir John A. McDonald in Kingston is another stab into our historical heart. The majority of Canadians are upset about losing our historical figures and we will remember at election time.

If statues are continually taken down because that particular person did something wrong during their tenure in politics or lifetime of accomplishments, we will end up with no statues or memorials to celebrate our history.

Dave Brown has been the paperboy for three generation of my family for three generations, a volunteer paperboy, that is. An 86-year-old, volunteer paperboy. Actually, he’s a neighbour who shares his copy of The London Free Press, a neighbourly act that’s become essential during the last year.

Most evenings at 6:45 p.m. I hear a knock at the door and I race to catch him before he disappears down the stairwell for his daily exercise. Our tradition began with him sharing his newspaper with my grandma; he likes to do the word-find puzzle and she liked doing the crossword.
