During the pandemic, enjoying nature and parks were welcome relief

The Columbus Dispatch Kudos to the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks System! They provided much- needed positive destinations for my husband, Don, and I during the pandemic, as I know they did for so many others. Central Ohioans are fortunate to have such outstanding gifts of nature so nearby. Being active outdoors enthusiasts to begin with, Don and I took the opportunity to explore the numerous Metro Parks during all of the seasons. We especially appreciated the extra effort the rangers made to encourage folks to seek out the parks.  They posted storybook boards along the trails featuring the local flora and fauna. There were scavenger hunts with prizes, decorative holiday displays and explanatory “Did you Know? signs located along the paths.

The List: Ranking our pandemic hikes

BlogsCommunityMusicArtsScreenEat & DrinkLegals From Walnut Woods to Slate Run, with a number of stops in between Columbus Alive We were maybe halfway up a long, steady incline on a mid-December hike when my daughter announced, “Dad, this hill isn’t tiring at all for me.” When she said this, she was perched atop my shoulders. As the early pandemic unfolded last March, we were living in temporary housing, having just started a massive home renovation. This meant that the four of us (five counting Ben, who is a very good boy) were suddenly jammed into a space roughly half the size to which we were accustomed, and in which we were forced to spend virtually every moment, whether asleep or awake. At the time, our two kids were roughly 5 months old and 3 years old, which meant that entertaining them could be a full-time job, particularly with the normal escapes (playgrounds, most essentially) no longer an option.
