Short sellers get used to not being very popular – they are regularly criticized in the press and may occasionally be scrutinized by the companies they campaign against. But even by those standards, Andrew Left from Citron Research has felt the pressure. Not from a company he has a negative opinion about, but from the people on the other side of the business.
It’s GameStop and Reddit’s r / WallStreetBets crowd, of course. Citron Research is a research website specializing in short selling recommendations. Like everything else, forum members hacked Mr. Citron Twitter account, set up a fake Tinder profile for him and made so many abusive calls to his office that he was forced to answer the phone in a fake voice as if he were someone else. They made concerted efforts to report him to the SEC for fraud and launched one petition to explore th
