events scheduled all weekend long. earlier friday at the rose garden, president trump announced he was signing the budget deal, averting another partial government shutdown. however, also declaring a national emergency over the southern border with mexico. with that, he plans to take funds from other sources to get more money for the wall than the compromise legislation gives. what we really want to do is simple. it s not like it s complicated. it s very simple. we want to stop drugs from coming into our country. we want to stop criminals and gangs from coming into our country. reporter: the budget deal gives about $1.4 billion for border fence construction. the administration seeks extra wall money from here. $1.37 billion from homeland security, $600 million from the treasury, $2.5 billion from the department of defense s drug program, and $3.5 billion from d.o.d. military construction budgets.
