STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. With the MTA announcing that it will postpone planned fare increases, but will move forward with plans to increase bridge and tunnel tolls, Staten Island’s elected officials are reminding the agency of the importance of maintaining the borough’s resident discount program on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Bus and subway fares won’t be going up just yet, but motorists could soon be paying more to cross New York City’s bridges and tunnels.
On Monday, the MTA announced that it had postponed proposed fare increases on the city’s buses and subways, citing the economic hardships facing riders as a result of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Attention Staten Islanders! This is your last chance to make your voices heard on the MTA’s latest proposed fare and toll increases.
On Monday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m., the MTA will host its eighth and final virtual hearing for its 2020/2021 Fare and Toll Policy Review.
During the virtual public hearing, registered speakers will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed changes, which include increasing the base fare from $2.75 to $3, increasing the express bus fare from $6.75 to $7.25 and potentially eliminating the Staten Island Resident Discount Program on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
