One of the reasons many people look forward to spring is the fact they can get around safely again. During the long snowy months, winter sidewalk maintenance has a huge effect on residents’ quality of life and it impacts their health, well-being and basic mobility.
The results of an online survey by Greater Sudbury Safer Sidewalks show that current winter sidewalk maintenance standards are preventing many people from safely reaching essential destinations; walking for their physical or mental health; or even leaving their homes. Many people are falling and hurting themselves on icy sidewalks, and many are forced to risk their safety to reach essential destinations.
