Party insists on not accountable to the anti-graft agency
The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of witch-hunting Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members. x
Led by Ndudi Elumelu, the group, in a statement yesterday, argued that the anti-graft agency lacked the statutory powers to probe the affairs of the opposition party.
It charged the EFCC to focus on its constitutional duties by investigating officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government allegedly indicted for corruption in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The lawmakers challenged the commission to commence similar action on the ruling party and invite its leaders over a plethora of petitions and reports of “clear cases of high-scale corruption involving APC leaders.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it is not accountable to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It said this in reaction to an invitation by the anti-graft agency after a member of the party, Kasim Afegbua, petitioned the EFCC.
Sen. Walid Jubrin, Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), said this while speaking with newsmen at the end of the board’s meeting in Abuja.
He said the party is only accountable to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“INEC is the regulatory organ for all political parties and the PDP is inclusive.
“The PDP account has been audited by a reputable chattered firm and the report is with INEC and the body has not raised any objection,” he said.

Southern govs right MACBAN patron, Walid Jubrin
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, came under attacks yesterday for comparing open grazing to spare parts.
Malami, in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, had likened the southern governors’ resolution at its recent meeting in Asaba, Delta State, to ban open grazing to prohibiting spare parts trading in the north.
According to hum, the decision to ban open grazing “does not hold water” in the context of human rights as enshrined in the constitution.
