tucked between two rivers, the campground s a popular weekend destination. floods swept through with alarming speed. until 6:30 before we were on dry round. reporter: the ouachita area was packed with families. chad banks barely made it out with his family. it picked my truck up and moved it like a piece of paper floating on the water. reporter: while campers slept, 6 to 8 inches of rain fell. within an hour, the swollen rivers, once waist deep, rose to 23 feet. the surging waters tossed around suvs and uprooted trees. the national weather service issued a flash flood warning by 2:00 a.m., but by then park officials say the rain was coming down so hard, evacuation wasn t an option. there wasn t time for that. these are flash flood events.
