WADESBORO Anson County Commissioner Vancine Sturdivant was convicted on March 11 for injuring notices and advertisements from moving an election sign during the 2018 election.
On October 17 of 2018, Sturdivant allegedly moved a Todd Moore campaign sign outside the Wadesboro precinct during early voting. Moore, unaffiliated candidate for Commissioner District 4 at the time, reported the incident both to the Board of Elections and the Wadesboro Police Department.
Sturdivant plead not guilty. She was originally charged with “remove/etc. politic sign violation,” which is a misdemeanor. After the trial the she was convicted with “injuring notices and advertisements.”
Sturdivant received a “prayer for judgment” verdict and the case was disposed on March 11. Prayer for judgment is a unique ruling to North Carolina in which the offense or punishment is not entered against the person.
WADESBORO The Wadesboro Police quickly identified and found the suspect allegedly responsible for a shooting on Feb. 5.
Around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, officers received a call in regards to a shooting off of Salisbury Street and Madison Avenue. The shooting involved juveniles about 16 to 18 years of age who were fighting, according to police.
A black Chevy Tahoe was dropping off one of the juveniles, and a red truck with the other juvenile was following the Tahoe. A suspect from the red truck fired shots from a rifle towards the juvenile who was getting out of the vehicle, police said.
No one was injured in the altercation.
WADESBORO The Wadesboro Police Department received a call in reference to an assault at Anson Health and Rehabilitation on Jan. 7.
Two residents living at the rehabilitation center were allegedly assaulted by an employee. One individual has hit in the back, according to the incident report. The suspect is also accused of grabbing the other resident’s gown and punching her in the chest.
The officers did not see any physical injuries at the time, but they took down a report from the two victims.
Both the center and Wadesboro police are investigating the incident. There are reportedly no cameras in the area where the assaults happened.
