This Christmas may be a little trickier than usual as we all try and navigate how to celebrate with friends and loved ones while social distancing. But luckily, there is a Christmas jumper that can help.
Created by SimpliSafe, an American security company, this festive blue and white jumper, complete with snowflake and padlock patterns, can help keep overzealous relatives at bay.
Called the Social Distancing Sweater , it is armed with motion sensors that monitor a 1.8 metre (six feet) radius around the person wearing it. If someone strays into that zone, the sensors trigger flashing lights and an alarm embedded in the top warning the intruder to take a step back. Mince pies should therefore be offered only at arms length.
SimpliSafe wants to make sure nobody gets past your social-distancing bubble.
That’s why the home security company has created the SimpliSafe Social Distancing Sweater, which it debuted on Monday.
A version of the brand s holiday sweater features festive snowflakes and knitted locks that are outfitted with a flashing light alarm system. The sweater will allegedly go off with flashing lights and a screeching noise if a person gets closer than 6 feet of the wearer, a humorous promo video shows.
However, SimpliSafe’s motion-detecting sweater is a prototype that’s not actually being sold to the public.
Instead, the company has given away a limited quantity of the same sweater without the lights and alarm system in exchange for charitable donations to NeighborWorks America Rental Resilience Fund – a nonprofit initiative dedicated to easing the impacts of rent loss. The donations are said to be helping people economically impacted by COVID-19, according to SimpliSafe’s press

Home security company SimpliSafe has decided to use the popular ugly holiday sweater trend to encourage social distancing during this holiday season. In a press release Monday, the company announced its official Social Distancing Sweater.
The sweater, which has a typical ugly Christmas sweater design, acts much like a home security intrusion system, sounding alarm bells and flashing lights if anyone gets within six feet of the wearer. It has integrated motion sensors, which will activate flashing LED lights and a siren.
The company will be giving away tech-free versions of the sweater in a drawing of those who donate to the NeighborWorks America Rental Resilience Fund, which is providing relief during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the winners receive their sweaters, they can go to sweater.simplisafe.com to find out what tech they need and how to add it.
