New car registrations in Mumbai went up by 13% in 2021 compared to pre-Covid times.According to the data, 56,689 vehicles were registered at the four RTOs between January 1 and December 26, 2021.
1,442 vehicles including 90% two-wheelers were registered during the year compared to 672 in 2019-20. Out of the total number of electric vehicles registered in the year, 885 were done between January and March 2021.

Out of the total number of electric vehicles registered in the year, 885 were done between January and March 2021. The Tardeo RTO registered 463 with the Andheri, Borivali and Wadala RTOs registering 426, 321 and 232 vehicles respectively.
According to transport experts, it is the increasing cost of petrol and diesel that is responsible for the rise in the registrations of electric vehicles. While the price of petrol neared the Rs. 100 per litre mark, diesel is priced close to Rs. 90 per litre.
