Out-of-work Tennesseans are suing Gov. Bill Lee over his decision to pull out of federal unemployment benefits programs earlier this year.
Seven Tennesseans, identified by initials in the suit, said in a federal complaint this week that they struggle to survive on the unemployment funds issued by the state while they continue to look for work.
Lee announced Tennessee s withdrawal from federal unemployment programs in May, opting out of funds that would pay unemployed Tennesseans an additional $300 per week in benefit payments as well as additional $100 weekly benefits for mixed earners.
Tennessee reverted to benefits only through Tennessee s Unemployment Compensation program on Sunday. The state s program pays up to $275 per week one of the lowest weekly benefits in the country and well below the national average of $387 per week.
Lawsuit filed over Lee dropping federal unemployment aid
