KOCHI: As the election campaigning is over, the state has started enforcing Covid protocol strictly to manage the second wave. Ernakulam alone has reported 654 new cases on April 8 as compared to 504 cases on April 7. The city is also witnessing more and more crowding on roads and in the streets. Traffic blocks have seen a considerable spike in the last week. Many public transport facilities are also seeing an increase in the number of passengers.

Society facing constraints including for availing of loan for project execution
With focus shifting to registering a company to spearhead the second phase development work of the Vyttila Mobility Hub, the VMH Society (VMHS) hopes to ready a revised detailed project report (DPR) by the end of March.
It had been decided in November 2020 to revise the DPR prepared by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) to include, among other components, a CNG-refuelling station on 50 cents on the 25-acre premises of the hub. The revised DPR was slated to be ready in February 2021.

Reforms may continue as stretch witnesses smooth flow of vehicles in west-east direction The traffic police rolled out a new traffic movement plan on Saturday to decongest Vyttila Junction, which has been witnessing snarls even after a six-lane flyover was commissioned a fortnight ago.

Faced with no let-up in traffic congestion at Vyttila even after the six-lane flyover was commissioned at the junction on Saturday, the Traffic Police handed over a list of recommendations to the PWD (NH wing), which included minor redesign of the roundabout and traffic islands, in order to streamline the flow of vehicles which converge at the junction from six roads.
