The Vulcan Lions Club is covering the cost of youth swimming lessons this year at Vulcan’s new pool.
“We’ve told (the Town of Vulcan) to send us the bill,” said Josh Umscheid, the club’s president, last week.

Umscheid said the Lions wanted to do something in memory of former Lion Wayne Ericksen, who died on Feb. 26 at the age of 76. Ericksen was passionate about swimming, and when he heard the Lions were spearheading the fundraising efforts for the new pool, he came back onboard with the Lions Club to help out, said Umscheid.

A formal cheque presentation is being organized to recognize the community’s fundraising efforts for the new swimming pool.
Josh Umscheid, president of the Vulcan Lions Club, wrote in a Dec. 14 letter that the club has contributed $800,000 towards the $5-million Town of Vulcan project and requested the Town organize a cheque presentation now that this fundraising goal has been achieved.

“Now that that this first goal has been reached, it would be appreciated if a formal cheque presentation could be organized to highlight the community’s contribution,” wrote Umscheid in the letter, which was addressed to Tom Grant, Vulcan’s mayor.
