it s unclear how many are still here, but the mexican government is allowing a small number of them to go in. those that are seeking asylum, and then they are bussed to a nearby shelter. the mexican government has made it very clear that this needs to be an orderly process, the mexican president, enrique peno nieto, the migrants here say they want the opportunity to be able to apply for asylum to get into mexico. they say it s a very desperate situation in their country, and now we re waiting to see how this all plays out. desperate situation it appears, indeed, gabe gutierrez in guatemala tonight. thank you. the state of georgia is now finding itself in an intense political fight over voting rights. a report reveals 100,000 people have been purging from voting rolls for infrequent voting.
340,134 georgians did not move from their registration addresses. they got removed. they ve been given no notice, joy, no notice that they ve been removed. they re going to show up to vote and being told they re not on the voter rolls. are you ready for this? brian kemp. they ll be given provagsal ballots. like the little black girl in the ad. like the little black girl. in this case you still won t be able to vote. you ll think you ll have voted. you re going to have a massive number of provisional ballots and brian kemp gets to count those ballots. i think that s part of and it s not just i think it s not just on the top level, it s all the way down on the county level. and particularly in these rural counties like we saw in jefferson county, but that s absolutely right, what we ve been seeing is this slow roll around voter suppression. we ve been talking to people, there are folks that are even concerned whether they re on the voting polls, voting rolls or
on that is right now. you re exactly right. there s already a tense backdrop about voter rights and voter suppression here in georgia. with both of these candidates at odds with one another for almost a decade with one of these issues. they re still fighting over in the courtroom and on the campaign trail. stacy abrams, the democratic candidate for governor has asked about this issue in jefferson county, and she s said, look, i don t know whether or not this is voter suppression, but we should be skeptical of all of these type s of incidents, because georgia has a history of voter suppression dating back to the jim crow area and before that. and republican brian kemp said, he points to record registration numbers. he says that his office has done more than any other secretary of state s office to increase the voting rolls and to allow more people to vote. so he says that stacy abrams allegations are essentially her trying to gin up a controversy. so this is definitely taking center

voting. that s why republican state governments around the country have done everything they can to close voting locations that are easily assessable to democrats and to simply kick democrats off the voting rolls for any excuse they can find and in many cases for no good or legal reason at all. nowhere is this strategy of trying to win by preventing voting more glaring than in the georgia governor s race this year where the secretary of state brian kemp is running for governor. he has been in effect the top election official in the state of georgia. so with his eyes on the prize of governorship, brian kemp has four years been canceling the voter registrations of democrats. he has canceled over 1.4 million voter registrations, and that s in a state that only has 6.4 million registered voters. brian kemp has gotten rid of 20% of the voters in georgia.
