there anything could be done to change that in the courts, is there anything the department of justice can do to change it? the freedom to vote act, you have provisions that prevents and over rule the will of the voters when it comes to elections. we have been talking about the infrastructure bill. those things really matter. they re extremely important of the lives of the american people. the most important legislation that congress is going to have the consider are these voting reforms. our democracy is at stake. we have to make sure that we are doing all we can to protect our democratic system of government. these two bills will in fact do that by preventing the kind of things we attempted over the course last few months and what
for schumer and senator manchin and the president today, they ve made it very clear he wants it to be done. this understanding of what the bill is going to be by the end of the month. so it really shows that the democrats are trying to coalesce around this. the urgency is something you just mentioned. the idea democrats haven t been able to get voting reforms back. they need to say we didn t get those things passed. we did get this big transformational bill passed. yamish, do you find it as significant as i do that we wake up this morning to find out that joe manchin, chuck schumer are in delaware with the president obviously talking about the build back better plan? shouldn t that be seen as a good sign that an agreement could be coming soon? well, it s a sign. i think it s probably a good sign.
court. as governor, i ll continue to push back on the big lie. i ll continue to make sure that the only bills that get my signature when it comes to voting reforms are ones that protect and enhance access to the ballot box. and so, that s the kind of work we ve done as a.g. and the kind of work i ll continue to do as governor will be the same, protect voting rights. here is the thing, ali. if we re going to make progress on the main challenges we face, the inequities that exist in your education system, our healthcare system, our criminal justice system and make real progress there, you can t make real progress if certain people don t get to be around the table. if certain people s voices don t get heard. so our democracy, voting rights, is the foundation upon which everything else is built. and so that is why i have been so out front and so strong to protect voting rights. if we re going to tackle these other big problems we have to make sure we have a strong system in place. i thin
