be permitted to vote. minnesota state law currently contradicts that. you have the right to vote if you re under guardianship, and only if a court takes it away. so that is against our minnesota constitution. my bill would restore the constitutional position and also just in case somebody is under guardianship and does have the ability to make an independent voting decision, it allows the court and the guardian to work together to give them back that right to vote. but usually the reason why you re under guardianship is that you are not competent. so i think the constitutional premise is the accurate one to start from. you happen to be the guardian of your own sister. you know, many would say that the right to vote is paramount, that you don t want people unfairly or incorrectly disenfranchised. absolutely not. we want to make sure when you re able to vote you get that vote. we also protect that right to vote, but that s right, i m a guardian myself. when i became aware of this, i
