legitimate voter issue. it is. an issue that effects many more americans than the 20 million americans who got healthcare. and effects a lot of working americans. and the problem for her is she cannot distance herself from it. to do so would be a lie. here she is. i m a staunch supporter of president obama s principle accomplishment. name the affordable care act. it is one of the great accomplishments not only of this president but of the democratic party back to harry truman. before there was obamacare there was what was called hillary care. how can she play this? premiums, it is mid twenties on average but there are some states where they are more than doubling. as a political point of view this issue is dead. it s been litigated and relitigated. we ve had three elections since the affordable care act was passed. at this point, two weeks before the election it will have virtually no impacts only the
been. what s really interesting is that 49% of republicans polled said they favored it versus 37% who do not. what s also interesting is that 62% said that they would like to see it on the ballot. and so i think that probably gives governor christie a little assurance that where his position of this being a voter issue. although people who want gay marriage, they don t want this as you said. they don t want it to be up for a vote. we know that in 2012 we saw all four legislative measures on the ballot, everybody came out in favor of marriage equality. those in three states voting for the affirmative. i think it was in minnesota where they voted no, to the constitutional ban to the state s constitution of marriage equality. what does this mean for governor
citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship. that includes marriage. that s why i support marriage for lesbian and gay couples. i support it personally and as a matter of policy and law. e ester, how significant and why now? major. no matter what it said, hillary clinton is positioning herself. if she were to run, she wants to be on the right side of america when it comes to this case. she s seen what s happened with the president, with the president s inauguration speech, he specifically mentioned stonewall. you ve seen a major push with the american populous regarding a respect for same-sex marriage, an acceptance of it. the turnout, when it comes to it as a voter issue, all of those things point to its importance politically. so for me, hillary clinton wants to get in front of it and not have it become a campaign issue for when she actually runs. is this just another sign that hillary clinton is definitely in it, amy holmes, in

president s trips to college campuses around the country, i think was a terrific way to put the spotlight on this issue. and the power of this issue, really, i think at least we finally saw it really come to fruition when speaker boehner, overnight, suddenly, threw his bill on the floor because i think he recognized, this is a broad-based, middle-class, independent voter issue that people really, really care about. so, you know, i actually do think there s going to be some stew of people that are finally going to come to the, a la some of the other manufactured crises that we ve had over the last 18 months. but long-term, as you point out, a one-year fix hardly solves the student loan, higher education affordability crisis. which exists in his country. and that s really one of those long-term issues that your prior guests were talking about that really should be front and center in this election in 2012. i m not sure it will. but it is a profoundly important issue for this country. y
