there s all sorts of opportunity for murphy to pad the lead. when you look for where could ciattarelli combat that, we don t see that right now. this has been democrats and republicans alike in new jersey have been frustrated with how the vote reporting is going. there s been a lot of confusion. leave open the possibility that something might be being missed here, but you don t see right now any big pockets of republican vote left to come, so we still try to get some clarity on exactly the numbers in every count, but we re what we are aware of points strongly to murphy. don t go anywhere, we re going to talk about virginia in a moment. rehema, what are you hearing from voters? was this a more localized race or, in fact, a nationalized fight? reporter: you know they say all politics are local.
is a core republican, county we barely have any vote in here. whatever comes in the rest of the, way is only going to help him. he s hoping to get some help from suffix, county there s other places in bigger places though where the vote is out in new jersey most notably burlington county, we now have two thirds of the vote in burlington county, he s leading here by a little better than nine points and we do not think critically that this council vote by mail. the vote by mail again that heavenly democratic vote. with a vote by mail is factored in, is murphy going to get the burlington similar to what he may be poised to get up and bergen. given the deficit that murphy is facing statewide right, now that could help him significant. burlington and bergen potentially, i understand we have a little bit of an update here as, well the other thing that s happening right now, is to be honest with you, the vote
much is left in each one of them. we re not sure exactly which type is left in each one of them, put you put them all together, you can see a number of different roots here where phil murphy can erase that 565 and still look at a lead of his own in this governor s race. then you start to say, okay, where are the areas on this map where ciattarelli, you know, could fight back, could counter those gains murphy seemed positioned to make. it s tough to i.d. those on the map right now. the only other thing i would say right now, on paper, you would much rather be where murphy is rather than ciattarelli. but i would underscore there s an intense amount of confusion in terms of the vote reporting coming out from the different counties in terms of trying to make sense, what are they telling us, in terms of the mail vote, the same day vote, the early vote. it leaves a little bit there where you want to say, do what our decision desk is doing, just
order to win statewide. we had him around 51%, 52. he s up on that by three, maybe four points. you have 88% of the vote reporting there in chesterfield county as well. let me take you down to the southeastern part of the state. show you another democratic county. kamala harris was there last friday, terry mcauliffe campaigned there many times. a dot on the map here, norfolk county. heavily democratic, strong african american vote. you have 3/4s of the vote in. mcauliffe is at 61.5%. store riskly how does that rate on a percentage basis? four years ago, northam was 73. yet mcauliffe is underperforming in areas where you d expect him to do much better there. i ll pop down here to see how this is virginia beach. 57% in, a good number for youngkin. chesapeake county, you re at 60% for youngkin. half the vote has been tabulated there in the southeastern part of the state.
right now. i want to look at the counties, if i can, that have about 80% or less reporting right now. so these counties that have colors have 80% or less reporting right now. you can see what most of them have in common. they re all blue. they re all democratic counties. and some some cases, let s take a look in hudson county, this is where jersey city, new jersey, is. you can see phil murphy has a huge lead in hudson county. 76% of the vote reporting there. so a lot more votes still to be counted in hudson county. so a lot more room potentially for phil murphy to grow. essex county, that s where newark is, a big urban area. again, just 72% reporting. you can see phil murphy with nearly 73% of the vote. let me look at one more democratic area here. this is outside philadelphia, camden, new jersey, you can see fill muphil murphy at 61%.
