Lux Express culls 25 percent of its routes due to restrictions

Long-distance bus line Lux Express is reducing its schedule to 75 percent of regular departures from Monday, citing falling passenger numbers on the back of increased coronavirus restrictions. Lux Express CEO Ingmar Roos said that their passenger numbers started to decline tangibly last week even before the latest round of restrictions entered into force, which happened on Thursday, adding that this trend was likely to continue. However, as society we must make difficult decisions in order that the day when we can resume operation on the full scale, both in Estonia and elsewhere, will arrive sooner, Roos said.  The cuts cover only routes inside Estonia; since Latvia effectively closed its border last month, routes to Riga and beyond were already caught by that move.

Kallas: Infection rates in Estonia worsening

Prime Minister Kaja Kallas (Reform) said infection rates in Estonia are deteriorating and are not moving in the direction the government would like. The Health Board has said infections are rising among school children. Answering questions from MPs on Wednesday, Kallas stated that infection rates are getting worse . She pointed out that 798 new positive tests were registered in 24 hours and there are 449 patients in hospital. All the figures indeed show that the situation is not good at all, Kallas said. She said surveys show that people s sense of danger has decreased. If people do not feel that the risk is high, then people will not behave responsibly, she said, adding that researchers also say self-discipline is the best way to control the virus.
