US CEO pay soars during pandemic

With a death toll over 586,000 in the US alone, millions of families have lost loved ones, as parents, spouses, siblings, and even children fell ill and succumbed to the virus in a matter of days. Volvo Trucks says it is expanding its North American training footprint with the addition of a 9,600-square-foot location in Hayward, Calif., located near San Francisco. It is scheduled to open June 1.
The facility will be the West Coast hub of Volvo Trucks Academy, which provides technical vehicle knowledge, dealer operations training and provides customers with exclusive access to expert training. The Hayward location will also support battery-electric vehicle (BEV) training efforts for the Volvo VNR Electric, supplying programs for company employees, technicians, dealer sales staff and aftermarket personnel, as well as owner-operators and fleet customers.

Volvo and Daimler are among the early producers of electric semis and box trucks in the US, with Volvo recording its largest order to date this month.
Daimler has opened up preorders for its electric trucks this month under the Freightliner brand.
Earliest volume adopters may still be logistics and consumer giants like UPS and Amazon, with smaller electric box trucks for last-mile deliveries.
Volvo Trucks has just received the single largest order for its VNR Electric model, with Quality Custom Distribution (QCD), a food service logistics supplier, requesting 14 trucks for its Southern California operations. The Class 8 trucks, built at Volvo Trucks New River Valley plant in Virginia, will serve last-mile delivery routes for QCD starting this fall.
