griff: we begin this second hour of fox & friends with this: secretary of state anthony blinken and homeland security secretary alejandro mayorkas are expected to head soon to mexico to meet with mexico s president obrador about the growing migrant crisis. joey: this is coming as a massive caravan can you see it there is moving toward the u.s. why cbp faces a record number of migrant encounters. carley: david spunt joins us live from washington with more. hi, david. hi, this is a big trip for secretary of state blinken and homeland security mayorkas. a way to end a record year for illegal border crossings into our country. cbp sources reveal to fox news more than 35,000 migrants crossed the border over christmas weekend. adding to more than 730,000 migrant encounters in less than three months. as we have reported, some people aren t getting court dates for seven or eight years from now because of the backlog in immigration courts. now, what to do. well, the ad
bret: finally tonight, it is truly a team effort by the red cross in dealing with two major hurricanes in the past several weeks. volunteers from the phoenix area working at the scene of hurricane florence in the carolinas now headed to the florida panhandle to try to help with the recovery from hurricane michael. benjamin montgomery is one of them. i have one week s arrest, but there are things that have to be done. they were looking for volunteer volunteers, and in my area, we are then on the number of people to go. so i told them, i will be there and they called me up and i m ready to go. mr. montgomery, thank you for your service and all the volunteers headed down to the florida panhandle. you are what makes the cleanup work. thank you and thanks for inviting us into your home
volunteer volunteers and the heart of texans really showing themselves by looking out for their fellow man. we re not going to be able to do it all by ourselves, whether it s at the state, county or local level. it s going to be brother helping brother, neighbor helping neighbor. in the coming days when we see more precipitation, that s what it s going to take to make sure we save as many lives as possible. we sure have seen that. good samaritans and neighbor helping neighbor have been he t heartening. george p. bush, thank you very much for p talking with us this morning. chris? the need will only continue and increase and we will stay on it. so, in a side story, as harvey was bearing down, the president created a political storm by pardoning sheriff joe arpaio. he is accused of multiple discriminatory practices in his enforcement of the law. trump says arpaio was just doing his job. was he? it is the great debate and we have it next.
very difficult situation there. several residents were saying i was wondering why people here in oklahoma would jump in their cars. a lot of people trying to escape the path of the tornado and rush hour traffic. a dangerous combination and people are left here to clean up the pieces. volunteer volunteers are showing up in these neighborhoods to help these folks, people bringing trucks and trailers to make that initial sweep of their homes, to take away what they can at this point. that is what they re facing. there were nine people killed, as you mentioned, in these tornadoes, in these storms here in oklahoma. more than 70 injured. again, as one resident just told me a little while ago, who has lived in oklahoma all of their lives, this has been the most devastating, brutal several weeks of tornadoes they ve ever seen. this is a tornado season people around here, miguel, will never forget. i can t imagine they re going to forget any time soon. it s a very rural area this time. didn t
