Renovations of a longtime Hendersonville shopping center are nearly finished with more redevelopment for the property planned around a road project.
The awkward intersection of West Main Street with Walton Ferry on one side and Old Shackle Island Road on the other will be realigned in a project that has right-of-way acquisition underway, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Right-of-way included the old Volunteer State Bank that is now demolished, TDOT spokesperson Kathryn Schulte said.
The road project is designed to improve efficiency, safety and traffic flow, Hendersonville officials said.
“However, the improvement to the intersection will most likely encourage additional investment and redevelopment within the West Main corridor,” Planning Director Keith Free said.
