Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge to be lit in orange and blue to honor volunteers who stepped up during pandemic © Provided by RADIO.COM Mario Cuomo Bridge orange and blue
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (WCBS 880) The Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will be illuminated in orange and blue on Friday night as a tribute to the thousands of volunteers in the Lower Hudson Valley who stepped up to support their communities during the pandemic.
In 2020 as COVID surged, so did compassion. We saw a record year for volunteerism in Westchester despite the pandemic, said Jeanette Gisbert, executive director of Volunteer New York. At Volunteer New York, we say we inspired 35,000 people to volunteer locally. We estimate that those individuals volunteered over 350,000 hours and the value of that impact to the community is estimated at over $11.7 million.
