shower, they need just to sleep for a night. and we re seeing this huge volunteer effort. we ve talked about it over the past couple of days. there s really no like one big ngo orchestrating all of this, particularly in poland. there are lots of tiny and volunteers who are chipping in. we went to a company today opening the offices to refugees and turned them into homes for 25 people. they were receiving another 16 this afternoon. we spoke to one of the employees and clear the emotional toll all of this is taking on refugees and the people who are witnessing this. take a listen. i was already had three breakdowns when i saw on the streets big buses with with
still seeing just incredibly high numbers of people crossing over the border, particularly here in poland. people numbering the tens of thousands. these are women and children. they ve left family members, husband and fathers behind. they are all of them exhausted and traumatized. it s still taking quite a long time to get across the border. it s better, but it s still an incredibly difficult journey for these people. we spoke to one woman who came here with her 6 and 10-year-old children. she said she left simply to save the children, left her husband back in ukraine. and it s also hard to overstate the influence of just the volunteer effort here. it s not like one single ngo or a couple of ngos are organizing this. this is an operation run by tens of thousands of volunteers, people inviting refugees into

commuters milling about going through the station getting on with their day. there is a shopping centre above this railway station with all the usual sort of things that you would find in a shopping mall. and there is a huge volunteer effort and the pressure really is coming to bear now. the easy options have kind of gone. the people who had space to take in ukrainianfamilies, most of that has been used up in the last two weeks so now there is a difficult challenge to actually find more spaces. there is a campaign from the polish authorities, i don t know if you can see the map on the wall by the door, that is actually suggesting smaller polish cities that ukrainian families could head to. the message says that there may be more space in those cities, they may be cheaper to live, there may be morejobs, because this is notjust temporary accommodation, this is people trying to build entirely new lives. and although people are progressing through the different staging posts on this journe
had air raid sirens. a couple days, we woke up to air raids here, many people spending the night in bomb shelters, worried what comes next. you have to remember, much of this is a volunteer effort, kim, it s all up to the people to keep sustaining it. you talked about the sense of unity people have there. give us a sense of the morale of those residents who have been facing so much stress and hardships right now. reporter: there s such a deep sense of national pride here, kim. a sense that together ukraine can overcome this. this is a very diverse country, one that is large and has cultural divides but right now, of course, you have families from every part of this country. that s what you re going to hear people and families say to you now is, yes, this is a mighty army but we ukrainians can stand together. much of that, of course, comes from president zelenskyy himself. i know you played that address there from him which continues to unify people to give them that strength of fac
